2nd Floor Closed for Renovations

As of today, and for another 2-3 weeks, the library's 2nd floor will be unavailable.  But it's for a good reason -  the original, 35 year old carpet is (finally) being replaced!

This is a big, messy job so there was no alternative but to seal off the space until the work is completed.

Of course, the second floor is home to most of our book collection (call numbers A-PR3999) and this is the start of the summer session.  So we have implemented a plan for book retrieval for those who need a particular title during the project.  Staff will enter the area twice daily at 8:00am and 2:00pm, get any book you may need and hold it for you at the Circulation Desk.  You'll be able to pick it up later that day or the following morning.  For more information (or to arrange for a book), visit the desk or phone 420-5547.

Fortunately, the first and third floors are unaffected by this so there is still plenty of study space available.

Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.  A new, clean and more modern second floor will make it all worthwhile.

I'm so sad I just graduated! I wish I were still around to see the new carpets going in seeing as I've spent so much time on the second floor.

Congrats to all of those who will now get to use the library without the red carpets!

African Nova Scotian Soldiers Recognized

To help mark Remembrance Day, the Library is pleased to be hosting a very special display. Parks Canada has put together an exhibit to acknowledge the contributions of African Nova Scotian soldiers who served, with distinction, in World War One.  The various panels highlight the exploits of local men such as George Downey, Joseph Parris, Jeremiah Jones and William White. It’s part of a larger Parks Canada initiative called Hometown Heroes , intended to commemorate those who made important contributions to the country`s efforts during the two world wars. Survey Prize Winner Announced

The survey of Saint Mary's undergrads' use of information technology has been completed.  Now ITSS and the Library needs to analyze all of that data and opinion to help determine where we go from here in the provision of academic computing hardware, software and services. In the meantime, we're happy to report that a 2nd year b usiness student, Brianna Lloy, was the lucky winner of a nice new iPad Mini.  Her name was randomly drawn from among the approximately 750 Saint Mary's students who took part in the survey,  She is shown here with Associate University Librarian Peter Webster (left) and Perry Sisk, Senior Director, Information Technology Systems and Support.
