IDS Prof to Discuss Coffee

Dr. Gavin Fridell of the International Development Studies Program has just published a new book about the global coffee trade.  Titled simply, Coffee, it explores the myriad relationships, and billions of dollars, which comprise an industry built around the provision of one of the world's most popular drinks.

To find out more about the industry, and the book, join us tomorrow (Thursday, October 16) at 3 o'clock as Dr. Fridell will talk about his motivation for writing the book, his research and what he has learned as a result.

The talk will be held in Room LI135 on the Library's main floor.  Everyone is welcome (and coffee and tea will be provided).

This is the first in the Library's new Faculty Author Series which is intended to help bring Saint Mary's faculty research to a wider audience.  More of them, on a wide range of topics, will be announced in the coming weeks.

Welcome to 2018!

We trust everyone had a happy and restful break. We sure did! Now we're back, refreshed, and ready to dive into 2018. We're hosting the Service Expo January 2nd and 3rd and the Societies and Partners Expo January 9th as part of Winter Welcome 2018. Doug Vaisey Retiring

After 39 years of wonderful public service, Doug Vaisey will be retiring as head of the Library’s Reference Department next week.  Doug joined Saint Mary’s shortly after graduating from Dalhousie’s Library School.  It wasn’t long before he was helping plan the move to the newly constructed Patrick Power Library.  As the library grew, so did the Reference Department.  Under Doug’s leadership, it quickly developed its reputation for unparalleled reference service and dedication to the Saint Mary’s research community, a reputation it maintains to this day.  Doug didn’t just preach the importance of great service, he served as its model, whether helping a struggling student with their first paper or a graduate student with the most challenging research needs.
