Introducing: the PRME Guide


We are pleased to collaborate with Sobey School of Business to offer the Sobey School PRME Library Guide. PRME, or Principles of Responsible Management Education, is a United Nations initiative encouraging discussion of social and environmental responsibility in business school curricula and supporting sustainable development goals.

The PRME Guide provides a comprehensive list of resources and best practices for eight academic disciplines within business. Included in the guide are articles and reports; books; case studies; videos; and webinars. Citations for recommended books and articles are publicly available, however full-text materials are restricted to Saint Mary’s users under our academic licencing agreement. Identified case studies can be purchased for class use.

Doug Vaisey Retiring

After 39 years of wonderful public service, Doug Vaisey will be retiring as head of the Library’s Reference Department next week.  Doug joined Saint Mary’s shortly after graduating from Dalhousie’s Library School.  It wasn’t long before he was helping plan the move to the newly constructed Patrick Power Library.  As the library grew, so did the Reference Department.  Under Doug’s leadership, it quickly developed its reputation for unparalleled reference service and dedication to the Saint Mary’s research community, a reputation it maintains to this day.  Doug didn’t just preach the importance of great service, he served as its model, whether helping a struggling student with their first paper or a graduate student with the most challenging research needs. African Nova Scotian Soldiers Recognized

To help mark Remembrance Day, the Library is pleased to be hosting a very special display. Parks Canada has put together an exhibit to acknowledge the contributions of African Nova Scotian soldiers who served, with distinction, in World War One.  The various panels highlight the exploits of local men such as George Downey, Joseph Parris, Jeremiah Jones and William White. It’s part of a larger Parks Canada initiative called Hometown Heroes , intended to commemorate those who made important contributions to the country`s efforts during the two world wars. Survey Prize Winner Announced

The survey of Saint Mary's undergrads' use of information technology has been completed.  Now ITSS and the Library needs to analyze all of that data and opinion to help determine where we go from here in the provision of academic computing hardware, software and services. In the meantime, we're happy to report that a 2nd year b usiness student, Brianna Lloy, was the lucky winner of a nice new iPad Mini.  Her name was randomly drawn from among the approximately 750 Saint Mary's students who took part in the survey,  She is shown here with Associate University Librarian Peter Webster (left) and Perry Sisk, Senior Director, Information Technology Systems and Support.
